Patience, Responsibility, Attitude, Consistency, Tenacity, Imagination, Concentration, Energy
All band students are reminded that instruments must be practiced at home on a regular basis. Practicing for 15-20 minutes should be a regular part of each student’s daily homework. This is where the concepts and skills introduced in class are perfected. Without regular home practice, sufficient skill development rarely occurs, and this leads to frustration and loss of interest. Encouragement and interest from parents is the most effective kind of support.
Great practice habits lead to great performances and a more enjoyable experience in band for everyone!
- Practice in a quiet area where you will not be distracted by people, electronics or noise.
- Pracitce the parts you do NOT know, first.
- Following smart practicing guidelines; practice the rhythm only (sizzle or count), tap/clap the rhythm and say the note names, practice the rhythm and fingerings, play the part.
