Beginner Band Day – Grade 7 Band

The Grade 7 Band will be traveling to Athena Consolidated School on Thursday, May 9th, to participate in Beginner Band Day. Beginner bands from across PEI will meet at the school to perform for, and listen to other ensembles. Students will depart Stonepark following the morning announcements and will return at approximately 2:00 pm. A pizza lunch will be provided at Michaels’ Pizzaria in Summerside. The cost is $5 per student.

A permission form will be sent home with students later this week. Please return the form and the $5 payment to the school.

Bringing home the GOLD!

Congratulations to the Grade 9 Concert Band on their incredible performance at the Atlantic Festival of Music! The adjudicators were very impressed with the band’s energetic and emotive playing – what a musical experience! The students were excellent ambassadors of Stonepark Intermediate School. Thank you to Mr. Coleman and Mrs. Richards for chaperoning the trip this year.

The next Grade 9 Band performance will be at the Spring Concert on Wednesday, May 29 at 7:00 in the school gym.

Itinerary changes

Due to the travel delay, our itinerary has been changed.

Lunch will still be at Masstown Market

We will be stopping at Dartmouth Crossing before heading to the new venue at the Atlantic Festival of Music to listen to other bands perform, and then take the stage for our 4:30 pm performance and adjudication.

We will check-in to the hotel at approximately 6:00 pm and eat at 6:30 pm (meal is provided).

* We have lots of snacks onboard the bus for students to have between their early lunch and late supper.

UPEI Music Education – Practicum Placement

Please welcome Josie Thibodeau, a fourth-year Music Education student at UPEI who will be gaining valuable music teaching experience during her six-week placement at Stonepark Intermediate! Ms. Thibodeau is an accomplished musician and has previously met some of Stonepark’s music students through the PEI Central Area Band Camp. Welcome, Ms. Thibodeau!

Early Morning Band Rehearsal Schedule – April 22-26

Due to the Grade 9 Band Trip, the Grade 8 band rehearsal on Tuesday, April 23 is cancelled – the Grade 9 Concert band will rehearse on Tuesday, April 23. There will not be an early morning band rehearsal on Thursday, April 25 as students will be leaving for the Atlantic Festival of Music.

The Grade 7 Band will rehearse on Wednesday, April 24 (as per their usual schedule).

Grade 9 Band Trip Forms

Three papers were handed out to Grade 9 band students who were at early morning band this morning; a PSB permission form, an emergency contact information form (which will travel with the band) and an itinerary (to be kept at home). If your child was not at early morning rehearsal this morning, and is traveling on the band trip, they will need to see Mrs. Sorensen to pick up their forms and itinerary.

Please fill out the PSB permission form and the emergency contact information form and send it back to school with your child on Monday. Thank you!

PEI Band Days

Congratulations to Stonepark’s Grade 8 and Grade 9 Concert Bands on their fabulous performances at PEI Band Days, held at the UPEI Performing Arts Centre!

Both bands received very positive feedback about their technical and expressive musical performances from the adjudicators Steve Hartland (NS) and Dr. Dale Sorensen (PEI). The bands are ready to take their music-making to the next level as they prepare for the Atlantic Band Festival (Grade 9) and the Spring Concert on Wednesday, May 29.

Thank you to Emily Cook-McDonald and Adam Hale for their help transporting large instruments to and from UPEI, as well as to all of the parents/guardians for ensuring your child was dropped off/picked up at UPEI. Thank you for supporting the Stonepark Band Program. PEI Band Days was a very positive experience for everyone!
